At the Annual General Meeting of John Menzies plc today, William Thomson, Chairman, will make the following statement:

 

"The Group continues to trade in line with our expectations as updated in our Preliminary Results announcement of 20 March.

 

Menzies Aviation has had an encouraging start to the year with a number of significant contract wins although earnings continue to be affected by generally soft cargo volumes and the weak US Dollar. The acquisition of Universal Air Cargo is now complete and the integration is progressing well. For the remainder of the year we look forward to gaining more contracts and making further acquisitions.

 

At Menzies Distribution, we have completed the terms of our joint venture with Eason and Sons which will provide an all-Ireland wholesaling solution. Cost savings initiatives are progressing well and magazine volumes continue to trend in line with our expectations."
