John Menzies plc announces the acquisition of Express Baggage (Heathrow) Limited.
Following a number of recent acquisitions, John Menzies plc, the time-critical logistics company, is pleased to announce that Menzies Aviation, its aviation support services subsidiary, has acquired Express Baggage (Heathrow) Limited ("Express Baggage"), a provider of luggage services to major airlines, operating at London Heathrow airport and five regional branches around the UK.
Express Baggage provides services for the repatriation of lost luggage and replacement of damaged luggage to airline passengers. The company was previously privately owned and its reported gross assets as at 31 March 2005 were £0.4m.
Patrick Macdonald, Chief Executive of John Menzies plc, stated:
"The acquisition of Express Baggage expands our successful UK operations and service offering. We are now able to offer "complete baggage solutions" to many of our UK customers. This is the eighth acquisition by Menzies Aviation this year and demonstrates our commitment to this growing business. In the year ended 31 December 2005 under UK GAAP, John Menzies reported turnover of £1,390.0m (2004 - £1,369.2m) and headline profit before tax of £39.4m (2004 - £33.6m). Turnover at the Distribution division was £1,104.3m (2004 - £1,109.4m) whilst operating profit was £30.7m (2004 - £30.5m). In the Aviation division turnover was £285.7m (2004 - £259.8m) and pre-exceptional operating profit was £13.3m against £10.3m in 2004.
