William Thomson, aged 61, has been a non-executive director of John Menzies plc since 1987. He is Chairman of E G Thomson (Shipping) Ltd and British Assets plc.
Gavin Reed, Chairman of John Menzies plc, said:
"It is my intention to stand down as Chairman at the AGM in 2002, when I shall have held that position for 5 years. William has an excellent understanding of the whole group and has had a huge impact in the various different roles he has performed since joining the Board. He is also extremely experienced in International Distribution and Logistics. I am particularly pleased that he has accepted the Board's invitation to succeed me. "

Appointment of Deputy Chairman
John Menzies plc, the logistics support services group, is pleased to announce the appointment of William Thomson as non-executive Deputy Chairman with immediate effect.
