LONDON CARGO CENTRE WINS EVA AIRWAYS CONTRACT

John Menzies plc today announced that London Cargo Centre ("LCC"), a joint venture between its Menzies Transport Services ("MTS") division and Lufthansa Airport & Ground Services, has been awarded a £5 million contract to provide cargo handling services for Taiwanese airline EVA Airways Corporation ("EVA Air") at Heathrow for the next three years. LCC, which was formed in July 1998 to operate Lufthansa Cargo AG's cargo terminal at Heathrow, will now handle EVA Air alongside Lufthansa Cargo, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways and South African Airways in its 150,000 sq ft. transit shed at Heathrow. Through its Concorde Express business, MTS already provides cargo trucking services for EVA Air in the UK. Commenting on the contract win, David Mackay, Chief Executive of John Menzies, said: "This is excellent news for London Cargo Centre, our joint venture with Lufthansa Airport & Ground Services. EVA Air is an important customer at Heathrow, currently operating three passenger and two freighter flights every week, which carry over 20,000 tonnes of air freight annually. "This is an important development for Menzies Transport Services, which has previously concentrated its activities at Heathrow Airport. The acquisition of a 49% stake in Sigma Aviation, alongside LAGS, is a further significant step in the development of our airport ground handling business and reinforces the Group's position as a major UK airport services operator."
