2009

FEBRUARY
On 2 February, the company announced that Ian Harley had joined the company as a non-executive director.

MARCH
Menzies Distribution announces a series of contract renewals and wins, including agreements with Frontline, Seymour, COMAG and Associated Newspapers. These agreements greatly increase the number of territories in which Menzies Distribution operates.

APRIL
Menzies Distribution contract renewal success continues with new agreements signed with Telegraph Media Group and Marketforce.

MAY
The global recession has an impact on cargo volumes for Menzies Aviation as the Group announces a 26% reduction in volume.  Cost management becomes key to the division, reducing capacity across the network.
Menzies Distribution however celebrates recent contract wins and begins planning for its greatly expanded network.

JULY
David McIntosh becomes Managing Director of Menzies Distribution, succeeding Ellis Watson who left the Group to take up an appointment with FirstGroup plc.  David was previously Commercial and Marketing Director and had worked for the Group for 19 years.

2010

MARCH
The Group announces that its focus on debt reduction and cost control in 2009 has reduced debt by over £50m, demonstrating the cash generative nature of the Group and managements rigorous control of the cost base.

MAY
William Thomson retires as both a Director and Chairman of the company, and is succeeded as Chairman at the AGM by Iain Napier.  William had been a non-executive director of the Group since 1987, and became Chairman in 2002.

Airspace over Europe was closed due to the presence of volcanic ash in the upper atmosphere from the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökul.  Menzies Aviation employees respond by flexing working patterns and reducing working hours and costs, and help mitigate the divisions loss.

Menzies Distribution formally launches Menzies Marketing Services, bringing together the combined experience of five of the divisions new businesses, exploiting synergies, allowing more effective coalition between print and digital, and assisting customers in fully exploiting their brand.

SEPTEMBER
Eric Born is appointed as a non-executive director. 

Norwich becomes the first branch to fully implement SAP, Menzies Distributions new process and management control software.  Before the end of the year it is joined by the Newbridge branch, with the rest of the network expected to follow in 2011.
